Ceramics ~ Architectural sculpture and Raku

Ceramics progress this week was very pleasing..
Progress was made on my architectural sculpture piece and on some small pieces waiting to be Raku fired.

This week I glazed my architectural piece using underglaze.  There were slight issues with cracking in the corners as it was drying, so it’ll be interesting to see whether more cracks appear as it dries further… if they do, I’ll need to patch and repair before firing.

Here’s how it’s looking so far before firing… colours were chosen by elimination really.. the underglazes don’t necessarily come out as they appear, so I really don’t know what’s going to happen.  It’ll be a surprise.

These little shapes below have been made for some time now, waiting to be glazed for Raku firing.

This past week we glazed and prepared them for firing next week.

This should be really fun and interesting.. the thing I like the most about this process is you really have no idea how they’re going to look when they come out of the kiln… another surprise!
