About the challenge and how it works:

  • This challenge is about processing 1 image in 4 different ways over 4 weeks OR taking 4 versions of an image at the time of shooting (eg. different settings, lens etc.).. and sharing them over the 4 weeks.
  • We will all  process / post edit (our own chosen image) and share a different version each week. Process it however you like… and tell us a bit about it. You don’t have to show the original image unless you’d like to.
  • Try new things, experiment.  Be as creative or subtle as you wish to be. All skill levels are welcome.
  • Links to my blog are welcome.

My Image:

This time around, my image is another ‘everyday’ image… something I’ve found within my own space.

Lavender - late afternoon light
Lavender – late afternoon light – Week 1

I was sitting on the back porch as the sun was getting low and noticed the light and shadow moving over these lavender heads as they blew in the wind. The light was wonderful!

To achieve this look I worked in Lightroom, adjusting the highlights and shadows – I added a touch of red to the highlights and raised the exposure a few stops as my original was a little too dark… although I did like the mood in the original.. I also de-saturated the colours a little.

So this is my first effort for this image – choosing for this first week, a lighter softer feel.  It’ll be interesting to see what I can do with this image.

Here is the original below..

Well that’s it from me for our first week – now over to you and your image:

Looking forward to seeing what we discover this coming month.  I hope it’s a great one for us all.

  1. Hi Robyn, congratulations on teaching the two year mark! I am sorry I won’t take part… too much happening at present. We thought we were over the hump but more challenges are being thrown at us. Will email you separately. 💕

    1. Thanks Chris – it is fun to reach 2 years, but the challenge is nothing without you guys 🙂

    1. Hey Desley, so nice to be hearing from you 😀
I love lavender too and these ones are so pretty. The light in the original was so lovely but I really don’t think the camera coped very well with what I saw (especially the colour) – So glad you like my first, softer interpretation. Thank you!

  2. I am always in awe of your photos and edits. I look at the the photos and think, how can she make this better? And then you do. I love both the original and the edit. The colors and shadows/highlights are just so nice. I need to get on my Flicker page. I have almost abandoned it lately!
