Christmas Break.. and looking back over 2016

Hello everyone!

It’s about that time of year where I take some time out for family, Christmas and holidays and I must say I’m looking forward to it – spending some time with family and not having to work to a schedule for a few weeks.. that will be great!

Whatever you do over the break – celebrate Christmas or simply the holidays – I wish you a fun, restful and happy break… from me to you  🙂

christmas-holidays-2016_robyngosbyThanks so much for joining me again this year… I love the blogging friendships we make here at WordPress… and for me, the inspirations that come with them.

Looking back over 2016

To be honest, sitting here right now – I feel like 2016 has been a bit of a blur… so I love that I can look back over images that help me to remember the year.. Also, this year has very much been about finding ‘interest’ in my own back yard, which at times has been tricky and I’ve really needed the motivation to ‘discover’ new or the same things again within my space.

Also this year, I decided to spend some time on Still Life photography and to return more to my drawing and painting..

This is a brief overview of 2016 from my world..

January – holiday month

February – man it’s hot outside

March – some cooler days

April – Autumn!!

May – colder weather and gorgeous mornings

June – Winter

July – very cold out – time for Still Life

August – enjoying the light

September – trying different things…

October – Spring – still cold and gorgeous light

November – a mix of indoors and outdoors

..and December.. apparently a pink month!

As I said previously, thanks for joining me this year and especially in the challenges.. I’ve been a little scarce at times this year due to very dodgy wireless internet (and often with none!).. but I look forward to another year on WordPress in 2017.

I’ve really enjoyed Instagram this year too and have (mostly) shared different images over there. It’s great to be able to interact with so many fellow bloggers over there too.

Wishing you the very best of the Season.. and moving forward into the New Year. See you there!

2 Years of Monochrome Madness

It’s been another year of Monochrome Madness fun with Leanne.  Wow, this past year flew by for me.. and while I haven’t participated as much this year, it’s still great to be a part of this challenge – the best part being all of the inspiring images that are a part of the gallery each week.

The image below was my choice for this week – 2 Autumn leaves.

About the challenge and how it works:

  • This challenge is about processing 1 image in 4 different ways over 4 weeks OR taking 4 versions of an image at the time of shooting (eg. different settings, lens etc.)
  • We will all  process / post edit (our own chosen image) and share a different version each week. Process it however you like… and tell us a bit about it. You don’t have to show the original image unless you’d like to.
  • Try new things, experiment.  Be as creative or subtle as you wish to be. All skill levels are welcome.
  • Links to my blog are welcome.

My Image:

For this last week, I decided to go with another textured version.  The first thing I did was go back to iColorama and combined edits with the Stackables app. Once I found something I was pretty happy with, I decided to recreate this in Photoshop as best I could.

Combined App Image:

I’m not too sure what my steps were for the Combined App image – using the week 2 image as my base, I played until I found something I liked. Once again though, the device screen is not calibrated and when I moved it to my computer I was shocked at how BLUE! it really was. So the App version shown here has been de-saturated, brightness has been lowered and I added a small amount of contrast.

The PS layers Image:

For this image, I started with the original file (shown below) and added a small amount of contrast and 4 different texture layers (paint and paper), changing the blending modes and brushing out what I didn’t want or need. I did try a halftone layer (fine dots) but it wasn’t right with this one.

I then added the text layer.

At the finish, I’m happy with this one.  I do not love blue, but I do love teals and turquoises, so I like the direction this took. It’s quite a large file, so I’m going to make it available as Canvas and Metal prints. I think this will suit 😀

I look forward to hearing your thoughts once again.

This is how February finished for me… a fun month I must say. Such a ‘still’ image – one I enjoyed giving some life.

Do you have a favourite from my images this month?  I’d love to hear if you do. I’m not going to include a poll, but please let me know in comments 🙂 Which one is my favourite? I think it’s actually week 3.

Now over to you again and I’m very much looking forward to seeing your next edition and how you finished February too.

Remember, we meet again on the blogs in May!!  Hope you’ve had an enjoyable month 🙂

One Four Challenge 2016 – Feb Wk3

Hello everyone! Hope you’ve had a fun week processing or taking your images.  I’ve been away from the screen this week, except for a mobile device, so I decided to go with the flow and try something different… more on that further on 🙂

Hope you’re enjoying February with the challenge. I know I am and it’s great to see new and familiar faces joining us! ..and it’s good to see the group numbers growing too. Welcome everyone!

** Reminder: The challenge is running on the blog for Feb, May, Aug and Nov only this year…and in the Flickr group all year. Please make sure you read the changes below for the One Four and that you’re up to date with how we’re doing things this year..

My Image:

As I said above, I’ve been away from the screen this week, except for a mobile device, so I decided to play with an App to see what I could come up with.

I will say up front, that this couldn’t be an exhibition print as I started with a small file, but it was fun to let go and just play. For this edition I used iColorama on the iPad.

One thing I am aware of is that the iPad screen is always much darker than other screens, so it’s always good to see it on another, to get a fresh perspective.

OneFourChallenge-FebWk3-RobynGosby-2016

I used 3 overlays in this edition.

  1. An artistic scratchy layer with some opaqueness.
  2. Explosions! I love this, because it’s what I love to do with watercolour and it’s taken away some of the hard edges in this image.
  3. A light leak on the left hand side.

As I write this today, I’m back on my laptop, so I took it into PS and adjusted the exposure and added a bit of contrast. I know this isn’t an image with lots of clarity, but this time around I like this!

I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

These are my February images so far..

Now over to you! I’m looking forward to seeing your next edition.

Lets do week 3! 😀
