I’m joining in with The Daily Post’s writing prompt this week: “Today Was a Good Day.”
Last Friday I spent the day with my lovely Sister in law and it was a good day!  We both share a love of art and creating art and for us a part of that is visiting the Art Gallery in Sydney NSW each year, (more often if we can) to see the Archibald Prize exhibition, along with the Sulman and Wynne Prizes.

These exhibitions are usually filled with controversy and the unexpected. Â Art. There were a handful of paintings that I really liked and I snapped the two shown below, with my phone. The lines and light are a result of the lighting in the gallery.

Daniel Johns by Julian Meagher.
This fun painting of a bygone era is by Max Mannix – filled with colour and life and painted in his usual style.
There are many more artworks and you can read more about them –Â and view the exhibition finalists at the Art Gallery NSW website – here.
This time there was another amazing exhibition on the work and life of Julia Margaret Cameron – a phenomenal woman photographer from the 1800s, with a very unique approach to taking mostly portraits. She was not conventional and not a popular photographer in her time. I wasn’t able to take any photos of her work and it’s completely understandable – but it’s so worth a look and you can view it here. I found her to be very inspiring!
About our day:
Our day started with a train trip to the city. We then wandered through Hyde Park…
Entry to Hyde Park
St Mary’s Cathedral
J.F Archibald commemorative fountain..
A closer look… and a shiny rainbow!
Enjoying the bright morning sunshine in Hyde Park.
Leaving Hyde Park.
..and made our way through the Domain on our way to the Art Gallery.
The Domain is a large area of parkland in Sydney and there are the most wonderful old trees – Moreton bay Figs. They are truly wonderful with stories of their own. I think they might just come alive at night!!
Time goes so quickly at the Art Gallery – after a great day we made our way home again with tired feet and smiles.
It was a very good day!
All images (except for the 2 mobile phone shots) were taken with a compact camera on a very glary beautiful sunny day 😀
