Behind the Scenes – March 2017

Pay Attention. Find Balance.

As I’ve said previously, this past summer has been the hottest summer here in Australia!ย  It’s been a summer that made us pine for the cooler days, longing to be outside, but not in the searing heat.

I spent a lot of it wishing for those cooler days, instead of paying attention – really paying attention, photographically. It gets hard when it’s too hot.. and there’s always the worry of snakes under foot outside (in the heat).

I heard something the other day though, that made me sit up and pay attention!

“Use those frustrations and wishes to mold your work.ย  Show how it really is!”

I’d forgotten… So… for the last days of summer and now into early Autumn, with camera in hand, I decided to get outside and ‘see’ what is under my feet and above my head.ย  I found life and beauty among the decay of the summer heat.

Here’s some of what I’ve seen this month, Behind the Scenes..

A rainbow for the last evening of Summer… with crazy light catching the fine misty rain…

and early Autumn mornings..

Above my head.. these beautiful Kookaburras came and sat in the gum tree out the back.. Singing…

I grabbed my camera and took these through the (dirty) kitchen window (on a very grey day), so I didn’t disturb them. Beautiful family.

Growth and decay.. It feels more like Spring presently… there is new growth too, among the plants closing down for Winter.

..and we are getting some beautiful cooling rain, to feed the thirsty plants and ground.

The beautiful trees show that it’s Autumn though, with their gorgeous colours…

Weddings.

In February, I did my very first wedding shoot for friends.ย  What a wonderful nerve wracking experience! I loved it and now I’m doing another in April. Who knew?!

More to learn! I love that ๐Ÿ™‚

Logo work..

A few posts ago, I mentioned doing some logo work for people who are looking for their own mark / brand.ย  I’ve been thoroughly enjoying working with some lovely people to create their own ‘marks’.

If you’re looking for something, please Contact me.. I’d love to work with you.. and as I’ve said previously, I will set up my Etsy again for this at some point.

Well… for a change, I’ve had plenty to say… that’s been unusual for me for a fair while now.

I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing part of my world ‘Behind the Scenes’ this month.

Enjoy the rest of March!!

5 mins at the Pear tree..

Today was a gorgeous day!!

The sun was shining through the clouds scudding past, the grass was growing, the wind was blowing ..and the Autumn leaves are turning!! One of my favourite times of the year.

I thought it was a great opportunity to step outside with the camera and take a closer look at the leaves on the Pear tree for 5 mins…. joining in with Desley Jane’s Regular random this week.

Here’s what I saw…

…and the images below are in sequence of what I saw through the lens… a branch swaying, with dancing leaves.

March is going by very quickly already!!ย  Hope you’re having a good month ๐Ÿ™‚

Country Morning..

February has been such a hot month in Australia – in fact I think it’s the hottest on record since the 1800s.. OR simply the hottest on record.

This means lots of ‘not being outside’.. just way too hot. It’s been a survival and hibernating month so far. Today is another hot one…

This morning though, was gorgeous!ย  A touch of cool in the air.. So pleasant and a good time to be out, before the heat of the day.

Here’s what I saw..

An overview of the beautiful cool, early morning..

I haven’t been posting much this year, but as the weather cools I hope to be sharing more of what I’m seeing…

Hope you’re having a great year so far!

5 minutes – the old doggie

5 minutes is new idea, hosted by Desley Jane at ‘Musings of a Frequently Flying Scientist’. This is a fun idea and one worth trying! All are welcome to join in and as I said above, it’s a new idea.ย  Read more about it at Desley Jane’s blog.

This week I took the camera outside to see what would happen if I ‘kept photographing‘ our oldest and quirkiest dog.ย  Those who know dogs, know that Border Collies have their own way of doing things…

Jess, our Border Collie, decided that he wasn’t going to look at me… well maybe a few times, maybe…. (and then right through me!)… He was sort of eating his dinner.. sort of..

The silent conversation went like this…. Well, his part was silent..

Jess… Jeee-eeesss.. Jess… look at me Jess..

No, I’m busy!

Jess.. Jess-ssss..

No. My master is coming. I know he is.

Hey Jess.. look at me Jess…

Nope…

Jess.. ‘Whistle’

Huh? No. yawn…

Jee-ee-ssss… (said patiently and lovingly…)..

I am busy!

Jesss.. ‘Whistle’

Nope… what? did you say something?

Ok, I’m leaving now……………

So this time, my 5 mins were actually 7 mins… Not knowing what I would ‘see’ capturing the old doggie in my ordinary everyday-ness… I was kind of surprised at the tiny changes within the images… These were most of the images I shot, but not all…

See the slideshow below.. there are 37 images in total.. Click << backwards until you see ‘Start here’..

Being a 5 min ‘shooting’ challenge, I thought I’d also see if I could edit my images in 5 mins too… Nope, absolutely not this time.

My computer is having major issues presently (a bit scary) and it took at least 20 mins just to import!!

I wanted to keep editing as simple as possible, so I have used 2 presets. A Lightroom High BW contrast preset and a Kim Klassen preset called Oak, which is possibly my favourite of Kim’s presets.

I hope this slideshow makes you smile… and be sure to pop on over to Desley’s post for this week (link above)..

Have a fantastic week!!

Robyn xx

(Next time, I need the ball nearby!)

More fun. ย Thanks Desley Jane ๐Ÿ™‚
